Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between a Private Workshop and a Public Workshop?

The workshops are exactly the same in content and activities.   The difference is whether a troop signs up on its own (Private Workshop) or if several troops sign up for a date that is pre-scheduled by the Challenger Learning Center (Public Workshop).   Both have a maximum limit of 25 girls.

What are the costs of the workshops?

Private workshops – Brownies $250, Juniors $300, Cadettes $550

Public workshops – Brownies $15 per girl, Juniors $20 per girl, Cadettes $25 per girl

What payment is required at registration?   When is payment due?

For Private Workshops, a $100 deposit is required to hold the date.   The balance is due 30 days before the date of the workshop.   For Public Workshops, full payment is due as soon as possible to guarantee the number of reservations needed by the troop.

What is the cancellation policy?

Private workshops :   More than 30 days notice in writing , payment is refundable, minus a $100 non-refundable deposit.   Less than 30-day notice, full amount is forfeited.

Public workshops : More than 30 days notice in writing , payment is refundable, minus a $25 processing fee. Less than 30-day notice, full amount is forfeited.

If the workshop is cancelled by the CLC, the groups have the option to reschedule for a later date or receive a full refund.

What if any of the girls from the troop do not show up?

Refunds are not given for girls who do not attend the workshop.

What if the troop brings extra girls on the day of the pre-scheduled workshop?

It is preferred that troop leaders call in advance if they know any extra girls are interested in attending.   If there is room in the workshop (fewer than 25 girls), then they may pay to participate (see costs listed above).

Is there a fee for adults?

There is no fee for adults who accompany girls for a workshop.

Reservations

How many spots should be reserved if the actual number of participants is not known at this time?

Sign up the estimated average number of girls who attend field trips.   Additional reservations can be made at a later date if needed, space permitting.

How do I know if I should sign a group up for a private workshop or a prescheduled workshop?

The number of girls signing up determines the best choice.   See table below:

Workshop Information

What are the lengths of the workshops?

Brownies – 3 hours

Juniors – 4 hours (includes a snack)

Cadettes – 3 hours

What do the girls do during the workshop?

See “Scouting Opportunities” flyer

How many adults should attend?

It is strongly recommended that the groups limit attendance to one adult for every four girls.   Any extra adults may be asked to wait in the lobby due to limited space.

Can siblings attend/participate?

Siblings should be left at home.   This is a badge-earning opportunity for the girl scouts.   If a sibling must come, it is up to the accompanying adult to bring activities for the child to do in the lobby.

Do the girls receive their badges at the workshop?

Yes, badges are given out during a mini-ceremony at the end of the workshop.   Badges are included in the cost of the workshop.

Do the girls receive a snack during the workshop?

Only Junior Girl Scouts get snacks as part of the workshop.   We recommend that Brownie troop leaders bring snacks for the girls to eat on the way home (crackers & cheese, pretzels, etc).
